Advanced Breeding Methods for Optimal Success
Our team specializes in multiple breeding techniques to increase conception rates and ensure safe, efficient breeding. We tailor our approach based on fertility testing, breed considerations, and reproductive goals.
Before ovulation has been confirmed, your veterinarian will help you decide the best way for your pet to be bred. Family Friends offers 3 types of breeding in office:
Vaginal Insemination
Done at Family Friends, once ovulation is confirmed. A polypropylene catheter is inserted vaginally. Once in the vaginal canal, the semen is inseminated. We recommend 2, possibly 3 breedings depending on semen quality and timing.
Transcervical Insemination (TCI)
Done at Family Friends, 48-72 hours after ovulation. A scope with a camera on the end is inserted far enough into the vaginal canal to locate the cervix. A catheter is then passed through the cervix, into the uterus and the patient is inseminated. We recommend 1-2 TCI’s.
Surgical Insemination (AI)
Done at Family Friends, 48-72 hours after ovulation. This is an insemination done under anesthesia that requires an abdominal incision and exposing the uterus. This is a procedure that is only done if the bitch has had 2 previous failed TCI attempts, and usually has a 2 week recovery time.
Natural Tie
Done at home or at a designated area, discussed with the stud owner. Can take anywhere from 2-30 minutes.
